Planetary Health Check 2026: Unspeakable Pain and “One Open Door” for Planetary Restoration

24/09/2026 · Nguyễn Ngân Sophie · 4 min read

Recently, reading the “Planetary Health Check 2026” report from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), we were deeply shaken. The report confirmed a painful reality: pressure is mounting across all of Earth’s life support systems, with 7 out of 9 “Planetary Boundaries” already breached. Changing climates, declining biosphere integrity, increasing ocean acidification… all are pushing our planet into an unprecedented high-risk zone. The report also highlights the depletion of natural carbon sinks as they struggle to withstand temperatures, droughts, and ecosystem degradation.

The Green Leaders Community (GLC), together with its partner NEPA (a policy accelerator bridging governance and civil society), has worked tirelessly every day toward restoring the planet. Through their activities, GLC and NEPA build an ESG foundation for businesses and connect policymakers, university experts and the SME sector to address the “implementation gap” in Vietnam’s Net Zero strategy, aiming to help create hundreds of changemakers and drive green transformation and sustainable leadership. However, faced with the telling figures from the Planetary Health Check 2026, we understand that current efforts are not enough. It is time to raise a stronger voice!

Yet, the message GLC wants to convey today is not one of despair. Despite the very bleak overall picture, we still have “1 door open”. The resilience of ecosystems is still there if we act immediately and in solidarity. This is the last chance, the only door that demands utmost effort from all of us to bring the Earth back to a “safe operating space”.

A call for collaboration from agencies and organizations

The transition cannot happen in isolation. The 2026 report emphasizes that no single country or organization can solve this crisis alone. GLC is designed as a collaborative governance platform. To create real impact, how can agencies understand and collaborate with us?

  • Management and policymaking agencies: Please view us as a bottom-up policy feedback mechanism. Let’s work together to promote flexible legal frameworks and support SMEs in accessing digital reporting toolkits to measure carbon footprints.
  • Businesses and organizations: Don’t stop at awareness programs. Move towards genuine “Green Transformation” and apply Systems Thinking. Let us accompany you on the path of integrating ESG into core business strategies, building green leadership capacity, and transforming supply chains.
  • Universities and research institutes: Continue playing the role of the “knowledge sector” to co-create feasible ESG compliance frameworks with the private sector.

Above all, as an ecosystem-building platform that champions ESG & Green Leadership and advocates for the Twin Transition, we hope this article will be a strong message and that NEPA/GLC will become a solid bridge in Vietnam. The planet is calling, and the door is still open. Let’s co-create a fair future, respecting human rights and featuring climate-smart governance.

🤝 Action doesn’t just come from organizations; it begins with each of us. As the Native American proverb says: “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children”. Nature has gifted us with air to breathe and clean water to drink. Can we pause for a beat to show our “Gratitude to Nature”?

For many years, we have channeled our efforts into the “Act with Nature” campaign. Every individual can contribute to restoring the planet, starting with the smallest things today:

  • Plant a seed: Planting a tree is sowing the seeds of new life.
  • Reduce waste: Start changing small habits, such as using reusable items and sorting waste.
  • Spread the message: Share your actions and stories to express your gratitude for nature.
  • Cultivate knowledge: Join learning journeys like the “Sustainable Future” course to equip yourself with environmental protection skills.

Green transformation cannot be a solitary journey, from the bottom of our hearts, we wholeheartedly welcome extended hands. Let’s join forces, from every individual and policymaker to businesses, to create a planet full of love and in bloom. Will you start with us?
